The London Development Agency is looking for individuals to join a new London Refugee Economic Action (LORECA) Advisory Panel.
The London Development Agency (LDA), through key partners, invests in deprived areas, promotes training and enterprise and supports key economic sectors. Our work ranges from small targeted projects to major complex schemes such as regeneration in the Thames Gateway and the work on the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The LDA is dedicated to improving sustainability, health and equality of opportunity for all Londoners. From January 2007 the LDA took on a specific remit to promote refugee employment by bringing in LORECA (London Refugee Economic Action) as a discrete unit to work on this issue. The LDA is now looking to recruit for a new LORECA Advisory Panel, to support LORECA’s work to improve the environment for refugee, and where appropriate asylum seeker, employment in London.
You will have direct experience of working in the field of refugee employment alongside specific knowledge of London, economic regeneration and refugee issues. You will also have proven ability to contribute verbally and positively in meetings, analyse complex plans and provide written feedback.
We are looking for 10 individuals to support our work and to;
- Provide strategic advice and guidance to the work of the LORECA team, as it provides pan-London co-ordination and strategic leadership to employment, training and enterprise services for refugees;
- Promote a strategic approach to the effective implementation of refugee economic action as part of London’s economic development;
- Support the LORECA team’s role as the link organisation for refugee employment, training and enterprise to the Mayor’s Board for Refugee Integration in London;
- Advise on the development of, and review the implementation of, the LORECA Business Plan;
- Provide advice on the nature of specific interventions LORECA could potentially make;
- Advise how LORECA can have maximum impact across existing LDA activity;
- Guide and inform the scope LORECA’s strategic contribution to other related networks; and
- Monitor the impact of LORECA’s work on refugee training, employment and enterprise services in London;
- Jointly review, with the LDA, the appropriateness of LORECA’s Strategic Objectives.
Time commitment: 4 quarterly meetings from June 07 to May 08 (appointed members to receive a fixed payment for their work on the panel). This may be extended for a further 4 years.
For an application pack or more information please contact Jon Williams, LORECA Project Co-ordinator, on 020 7593 8356 or email jon@loreca.org.uk.
The LDA values diversity and wishes to recruit members to this group which reflect the communities we serve.
Closing date: 12pm Friday 18th May 2007.

LORECA joins London Development Agency
LORECA has been ‘mainstreamed’ into the London Development Agency, and is now based at Palestra. LORECA now runs as discrete unit within the Equality and Diversity team.
The move embeds refugee employment issues into London’s governing structure, and increases the impact LORECA can have on London’s economic regeneration activity. LORECA held a celebration reception with its stakeholders on 11 December 2006, noting the achievements of the first phase of the project and thanking those who made the project a success, including its steering group, partners, and Meta-Network members.
The move into the LDA is effective 1 January 2007. Please note our new contact details.
