LORECA is now located within the Equality and Diversity Team at the LDA, which makes it well placed to influence the work of the agency alongside Equality colleagues charted with promoting equality for women; disabled Londoners; Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities; faith communities, older and younger people; and lesbian, gay and bisexual and trans Londoners (LGBT).
The LDA funds a series of projects and programmes in order to fulfil its objectives. LORECA is involved in influencing the LDA's activity right across the board. It has the opportunity to comment on strategic documents like the London Skills and Employment Strategy, to be involved in Equality Impact Assessment of projects as they come to be funded, and to work with organisations who have been successful in gaining funding to ensure they deliver in a way which is appropriate for London's refugee communities. A recent example of the influence LORECA can have is the 2007-2013 ESF programme. Through input into the prospectus for the first round of LDA co-financed funding, LORECA was able to encourage the inclusion of refugee and asylum seeker strands, as well as applications from community-led bodies.
