LORECA works at a strategic and policy level, sitting as a discrete unit within the Equality and Diversity team of the London Development Agency (LDA).
The London Development Agency is the Mayor's agency responsible for driving London's sustainable economic growth. Its job is to ensure that London remains a global success and a leading world city. To deliver this the LDA works with partners from business, the public and voluntary sectors.
The LDA is the primary organisation responsible for delivering the Mayor’s Economic Development Strategy. Its work is focused four key areas: Supporting People, Encouraging Business, Marketing London and Places and Infrastructure. A key part of the last element is work on the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The LDA is also tasked with driving forward equality, health and sustainability.
LORECA's key areas of focus are: employment, training, and enterprise (ETE), but it works to ensure that the wider needs of refugee Londoners are taken into account across the work of the LDA, including the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics and their legacy and the cross-cutting themes of equality, health and sustainability.
In 2008 LORECA is creating a 3-year business plan to inform its future work within the LDA and the wider GLA family. A key objective for 2008 is supporting the roll-out of London Enriched, the Mayor's Strategy for Refugee Integration in London.
LORECA has a consultative role, serving as the 'link' body between the Mayor's Board for Refugee Integration and stakeholders seeking to support London’s refugee communities on ETE matters.
Stakeholders include employers, statutory agencies, training providers, and vitally, London's vibrant refugee sector, including Refugee Community Organisations.
